# About the FT’s Bitcoin Coverage

Dear reader,

The Financial Times just hit its 400th piece on Bitcoin since 2018 with a banger of a mini-documentary featuring Michael Saylor that went viral on X.

But what kind of story have they been telling?

I ran the numbers using [Perception’s data](https://app.perception.to/?ref=cms.perception.to) to find out if the FT has been a net positive or negative influence on how its readers perceive Bitcoin.

The findings? Let’s just say it’s not exactly balanced.

**1\. Bitcoin Coverage – Only When It Bleeds?**

Since 2023, the FT ramped up its Bitcoin coverage after virtually ignoring the topic outside of major crashes in 2018 and 2021/2022. They were mostly quiet while Bitcoin was building and innovating, but when tradfi started leaning in last year, coverage surged. Coincidence?

**2\. Sentiment Breakdown – 1 in 10 Positive**

![](https://cms.perception.to/content/images/2025/05/Gq-hs-wXIAAb_Gu.jpeg)

Out of 400 articles, 45% have been negative, and just 11% positive. That’s 1 in 10 pieces painting Bitcoin in a good light. The rest? Classic narratives: scams, volatility, regulation fear.

**3\. What They’re Covering (and What They’re Not)**

![](https://cms.perception.to/content/images/2025/05/Gq-iC-mXEAAikrI.jpeg)

Most of the FT’s Bitcoin content zeroes in on price crashes, regulatory crackdowns, and crime. Meanwhile, global adoption, tech innovation, and financial inclusion barely get a mention.

**4\. The Bottom Line**

If FT is your main source of Bitcoin news, you’re getting a one-sided story. And it’s not by accident.

Stay sharp,
